UPDATES:
Updates from Mary:
Welcome to our new player, Victoria Allen, who attended on November 13.  Our group is growing!

Good news:  Our webmaster for the Tucson Dulcimer Ensemble (TDE), Bob Bush, has set up a page on that site for our Flagstaff group!  It will make it easier for us to keep up with our assignments and to access resources on the TDE website as well.

New assignment: This Old Man.  Learn this one by ear, from the video. https://youtu.be/10OmU1Nd5yQ?si=uCjlPGKPr8rLu38u

No Tab is used. (Tab is short for tablature, the dulcimer notation system.)  All fretting in this video is only on the melody string; easy!  There is a great view of the teacher's hands on camera. You can pause and back up as many times as you need. Notice that she has a ‘one and a half’ fret, so she skips over that fret to get to the two fret.

Notice places where she plays on the in stroke as well as out stroke  - for the faster notes (eighth notes) sometimes in the melody, and sometimes in the rhythm fills.

New sheet music to try: Michael Row the Boat Ashore.  I have highlighted the melody notes.  At first, play just those.  The other notes that make the page look busy are rhythm fills (using rhythm patterns we practiced) and chords we practiced. Take those on when you are ready.  It helps to learn the melody if you sing along as you play.
