Hear the lonesome whippoorwill, He sounds too blue to fly. The midnight train is whining low. I’m so lonesome I could cry. 2. I’ve never seen a night so long, when time goes crawling by. The moon just went behind a cloud To hide its face and cry. 4. The silence of a falling star Lights up a purple sky. And as I wonder where you are I’m so lonesome I could cry. The Star of the County Down 1. Near to Bainbridge Town in the County Down One morning last July, Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen And she smiled as she passed me by. Oh she looked so neat from her two white feet to the sheen of her nut brown hair. Such a coaxing elf, sure I shook myself For to see was I standing there. Chorus: From Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay And from Galway to Dublin Town, No maid I’ve seen like the sweet Colleen That I met in the County Down. 2. As she onward sped, sure I shook my head, And I looked with a feelin’ rare, And I said, says I, to a passerby, “Who’s the maid with the nut brown hair?” He smiled at me and with pride says he, “That’s the gem of Ireland’s crown. She’s young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann. She’s the Star of the County Down.” 3. At the Harvest Fair I’ll be surely there And I’ll dress in my Sunday clothes, With my shoes shone bright and my hat cocked right For a smile from my nut brown Rose. No pipe I’ll smoke, no horse I’ll yoke Till my plough with rust turns brown. Till a smiling bride by my own fireside Sits the star of the County Down. SOUTHWEST PRACTICE 3rd Wednesday of the Month

Update from Denise: REVISED 1/6/25
General consensus regarding the 1st Quarter of 2025 (Jan.-Mar.), during our 2-hour gathering “agenda”, we will . . . a. Spend our 1st hour, (10:00 a.m – 11 a.m.), doing a “round robin” jam circle, where each player takes a turn picking out a song selection (from “Books We Use” and commonly played tunes (see “Events & Practices” on TDE website) for the others to play along OR, bring copies of your song selection to share with the group! NOTE: It has been requested that we stay with the books and songs we currently use for a period of time instead of bringing in new songs. **Additional note**: Since we cannot gain entrance into our “1st Sat.” location (Nanini Library) until they open at 10 a.m., we will strive to set up quickly and begin our 1st hour “jam session” between 10:10 a.m.– 10:15 a.m. We are also asking for an extra 1/2 hour for Penny Whistle practice if anyone wishes to play Penny Whistle. At our 3rd Wednesday location (Mt. Zion Lutheran Church), the doors to the Fellowship Hall will already be open. This gives us time to arrive early to set up and begin playing between 10 a.m. – 10:05 a.m. We will also meet afterward our practice time for a 1/2 hour of Penny Whistle if anyone is interested in joining us. b. Spend our 2nd hour, (11:00 a.m. – 12 Noon), playing song selections based on a particular music theme and/or a particular dulcimer artist/arranger. For this 1st Quarter (Jan.- Mar.) the 2nd-hour music theme will be “Cowboys & Celtics”. It was strongly recommended that our song selections come from either our TDE website’s music download pages (Members Only Area!) --and/or -- from the “Books We Use” list on the Events & Practices page. c. Use some particular song selections that may be featured FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY on our website’s “Wednesday Practice” page or, our “Saturday Practice” page. These can be accessed by Members Only! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Facilitating the TDE Gatherings: Denise Parker and Susan Lundquist have agreed to help facilitate the “3rd Wed. at Mt.
